Chicago Cult Gangs and Satanist Gangs

Monks Gang

(Back Of The Yards)

One of the most hated South Side Chicago crews of the 1970's, the Monks hungout near the railroad tracks at 2200 West, between 55th and 49th streets in the Back of the Yards area, where they sniffed glue and allegedly dabbled in Satanism. At least some were seen wearing a type of monks cowl or black hood. After the Monks were believed to have sacrificed a number of cats and dogs on the railroad tracks, they also allegedly forced a few smaller kids to eat peanut butter or drink blood until they became sick. On at least one occasion in the early 70's, a large posse of neighborhood youths armed with baseball bats, pipes and sticks conducted a search of suspected Monk hangouts which perhaps led to them moving further North along the tracks.

BOTY Monks

While not an actual street gang, the Monks were known to tag the area on occasion.
